Outreach, CULTURAL COMPETENCE and communications

Research and consult on range of communications strategies to address health disparities and under-served populations for clinical research clients in industry and government. Strategies include: expanding input at protocol-development stage; evaluation of utility and content of social media and surveys; and site/community outreach mechanisms.


Develop supportive materials and branding for clinical trials including the development of visual pieces for use in recruitment and retention and associated supporting materials.


Developed and co-created Institute specifically designed to provide research, publications, and presentations on public attitudes towards clinical research as well as Safety Culture/system innovation impacting multiple stakeholders.


Establish community trust. Mediated ethnic, racial, personal, and community civil conflicts for DC Court System. Despite Court’s mandatory requirement of resolution efforts, achieved 99% resolution and avoidance of litigation by establishing trust, listening and safety as pre-conditions.


Design and develop websites, online surveys, and community websites in support of clinical trials with a focus on patient and investigator access, understanding and satisfaction, leading to increased recruitment, retention and compliance.


Utilize proprietary methods based in cultural anthropology and conflict resolution to create Cultural Competence.  Provided cultural  awareness strategies for domestic and international clients and diversity training and interventions especially in areas of gender, race, and regional differences for both federal and private sector clients.


Advised federal Agency on healthcare communications on formatting risk and safety alerts and on the use of social media for mass communications of such alerts to better reach targeted audiences.


Evaluated federal Agency strategies for novel outreach effort to obtain direct input from patients and advocates toward simultaneously improving clinical research protocol designing and scientific reviewing, resulting in effective model especially for life-threatening diseases.


Develop widely-circulated range of professional communications – from Conference/Hearing summations to Position and White Papers – in support of industry clients’ and external colleagues’ projects.


Routinely present, moderate/chair, and serve on panels on complex healthcare and research issues at international, national, and regional professional conferences attended by multi-specialty and multi-sector audiences.


Publish extensively in peer-reviewed Journals on issues impacting public health and public policy; serving on Editorial Boards of similar journals.


Designed and conducted working sessions on outreach and engagement for federal executives, improving ability to work with citizenry and legislators and to understand how federal government’s “brand” or image is created in the public eye.


Assessed and resolved serious performance issues for Washington, DC-based federal policy group responsible both to Congress and West Coast-based Executive Branch headquarters. Through multi-year intervention, reorganized reporting and communication structures, leading to quicker response to Congressional inquiries and better positioning on policy matters. by linking retention to performance, problematic employees retired or were dismissed, morale increased and performance improved.


Through intervention effort aimed at improving critical relationships, morale, and performance within Federal auditing group that traveled together for weeks at a time and collaborated on all aspects of audits, conflicts were identified and addressed, differences in work styles were understood and accepted and team member reassigned.
